日本では普段ボールペン、鉛筆が手紙や文書を書く筆記用具として使用されていますが、書道は古来の筆記用具である筆と墨を用いて漢字やかな文字を芸術的に表現する日本の伝統文化の一つです。 また、書道は、文字の整い具合の他、筆の運び方、墨の濃淡、全体の配置の美しさといった観点から鑑賞するものです。 書道はもともと中国で発達したものですが、日本では６-７世紀頃に筆、墨、紙の作り方などとともに中国から伝えられてから本格的に始まりました。当時、日本の指導者であった貴族や武士には不可欠な教養とされました。 書道には漢字や、かなの一点一画を正確に書き、方正な形にまとめる書体の「楷書（かいしょ）」、楷書の点・画をくずした「行書（ぎょうしょ）」、曲線を多用し流動性に富む最も自由な書体の「草書（そうしょ）」といった様々な書き方があり、書道を学ぶことで１つの文字を丁寧に書き、書き順には、筆の運びに意味があることを理解することができます。

For this calligraphy experience, I'll begin with an introduction to the art and some buckground of Japanese language. Then I will give a calligraphy performance as my way to express myself. Then you have a chance calligraphy performance by yourself. After that, I will give you calligraphy certificate with your name in Japanese. And at the end of the show, you'll receive my calligraphy as a souvenir.

ミシュラン掲載の懐石料理店（ミシュラン掲載店）で日本の芸術、書道が楽しめます。 ～体験の流れ～ 1.書道についての説明 2.基本的の線と基本の漢字の練習 3.好きな漢字の練習（ご用意しているお手本の中から選べます。それ以外のご自分の好きな漢字でも構いません。） 4.自分の名前を漢字で練習（こちらでお作りして、見本を書きます。） 5.気に入った漢字と自分の名前を色紙に書いて、ハンコを押して、作品を仕上げる。家にすぐに飾れるように、色紙用の掛け軸をプレゼントいたします。

This experience is not only about drawing calligraphy. You'll also learn about its background and the history of the Japanese language. Calligraphy expresses a person’s personality and gives a good insight into that person’s way of life. It touches the heart and somehow, clears the mind. I'll begin our session with an introduction to calligraphy. After that, I'll give a demonstration and then you'll get some hands-on experience. You'll also get a certificate when you're finished.
